Job Title: Machinist

Position Summary:

A machinist operates computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, such as lathes and milling machines, to cut and produce precision parts for machines, instruments, and tools. Machinist produce parts using both manual and automated equipment with precise measurements. Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operates and maintains lathe and or milling machines

  • Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints, or samples to ensure accurate production

  • Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping

  • Ability to validate and verify tight tolerances

  • Ability to recognize deviation from standard machining practices

  • Performs visual and dimensional inspections

  • Follows all QMS and ITAR policies, processes, and procedures

  • Selects appropriate machine and settings for a given task

  • Ensure all tools are calibrated daily

  • Plans proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment

  • Monitors production, adjusting feed and other settings as necessary

  • Checks output for quality assurance and documents defects

  • Identifies need for and performs machine maintenance and minor repairs

  • Maintains a safe and clean workstation

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed

  • Ensures all dimensional tolerances are held

  • Modifies programs to meet part specifications

  • Communicates any issues or non-conformances with Supervisor

  • Ensures all operations are carried out safely

  • Demonstrated understanding of GD&T

Minimum Training Requirements:

  • QMS & ITAR Awareness

  • EH&S Awareness

  • Traveler Completion and Sign-off

  • Supplier Inspection Report Completion

  • Scrap Material Handling

  • Gage Verification/Calibration

Additional Requirements:

  • CNC Machining: 5 years (Preferred)

  • Proficient in G Code. 4th and 5th axis experience (huge plus)
